We're in the middle of a heat wave. That in it of itself isn't so bad, but when you combine it with humidity that can reach 100% it can be unbearable. What's more air-conditioning isn't common, and it is typical to sleep with just no covers at all and with fans pointed directly at you.
I saw a couple flying foxes, the biggest bats in the world! Aside from that there are a bunch of birds that you can't find anywhere else unless you have them as pets. For example, cockatoos are native to Australia, so you see them everywhere. Parrots are pretty common here too, and kookaburras, which sound like monkeys when they sing, and they have giant heads. Oh yes, and let's not forget magpies— they're like crows with a little bit of white on their heads and tails. They're also super mean. In mating season they get really territorial and will swoop down and try and peck you if you walk by the tree they're nesting in. It's pretty funny to watch until it happens to you.
