Visiting Citibank in Shanghai

Introduction:

Over the past few weeks, I have shared with you what life is like in some of China’s cities, suburbs and villages. To learn more about what life is like in China, I met some employees at Citi, a global corporation that has offices in Shanghai. This meeting was very special, and I would like to share what I learned with all of you.

Let me introduce you to Caterina Wu and Fu Zhu. I met these wonderful global mentors through the Reach the World - Citi Local Host Program! They were kind enough to let me interview them about their global careers. Let me share what they told me in their own words.

Just a quick note of explanation: The order of Chinese names is different than the order of names in the United States. In China, the last name or family name is written first, and the first name is written last. In the United States, our given name is written first, and then our family name is written last. Some of us might have a middle name or many family names. Isn't that interesting?

What is your full name?:

Caterina: My full name is Wu Ying Ying, and my English name is Caterina.

Zhu: My full name is Fu Zhu. I don’t have an English name.

Where do you live? What is your house like?:

Caterina: I live in an apartment like most people in Shanghai.
