English and Irish are the main languages spoken in Galway.
Euros are the currency used here. They come in paper and coins, and are very easy to use.
A typical bottle of water costs about 1 euro! This is equivalent to about $1.18. I usually carry around a water bottle so I don't spend as much money. Also it's more eco-friendly to use a reusable container.
I had the most amazing meal at a small French restaurant in Galway. I ordered a crepe, which is made from a very, very thin biscuit. The one I ate was full of egg, emmental cheese, ham, cream and balsamic vinegar! It was the perfect treat after walking several miles that day!
I listened to traditional Irish music this week! While in Galway, we went to a restaurant that had live music. This type of music is called a "session" in Ireland. Musicians play instruments such as the fiddle, accordian, Bodhran drum, tin whistle, flute and more! The musicians sit in a corner of the building, casually talking, eating and playing traditional tunes. This live music is unlike anything I listen to on the radio. I couldn't help but tap my foot to the upbeat tempo of the jigs and reels that they played!
