What does it mean to be an "American"--cultural identity

Of course, Germany also has different states, but these are not as clearly-delineated the different states in America in terms of their diffrences to one another.

Overall, being an American and living abroad was such a valuable experience, as I was able to see my own cultural identity through the lens of people who are not from the same place as me. Living abroad humbled me and reminded me that the globe does not revolve around the U.S. A., as so many of us Americans have grown up thinking is the case. As you yourself spend time abroad, I encourage and challenge you to ask your friends abroad how they view the United States; if you do this, you will likely learn much more about your home country than you anticipated, both the good and the bad!
