Hello, everyone! My name is Semaj Young, and I was born and rased in New Orleans, Lousisana. I am a New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (N.O.C.C.A.) alumna from the Academic Studio and the Drama department!
When I was a junior at N.O.C.C.A., I took Dr. Haas’s Environmental Science dual enrollment class. I knew that environmental issues existed, but in this class I learned for the first time about the detailed reasons why our planet is changing so rapidly. This class inspired me to major in environmental science in college.
My home institution is Illinois Wesleyan University (I.W.U.) in Bloomington, Illinois. I attend Illinois Wesleyan University as a Posse Scholar. The Posse Foundation is a nonprofit organization that partners with universities across the United States to provide full tuition scholarships and training for future leaders. In this organization, a “Posse” refers to the group of ten people that are selected to attend the same university together with the full tuition scholarship.
At Illinois Wesleyan University, I am a double majoring in Environmental Studies and Theatre Art. I decided to study abroad in Iceland because it fit well with my Environmental Studies degree.
