Hi, everyone! My name is Lexie Meger, and I am beyond thrilled to take you along with me as I move to Brazil and prepare to conduct research there. But first, let me tell you a bit about myself.

I was born and raised in a small town in central California called Bakersfield. I am the second in a family of four girls, so there is always some drama going on in my house. When I was 11, my parents began serving as foster parents, and I have been blessed to be a sister to 21 more sibilings!

My interest in medicine, specifically as it relates to infants (neonates) and pregnant people, stems from my experience with my foster sibilings, because many of them came under our care as infants. I spent a lot of time in and out of the N.I.C.U. (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) with them, and I quickly developed a passion for medicine as it relates to people with uteruses and newborns.

I completed my undergraduate degree at Georgetown University where I double majored in Nursing and Studio Art with a minor in Portuguese. I have to admit, choosing to study Portuguese above another language boiled down to a multitude of random factors spurred on by a feeling that this language in particular would be important to me.  Today, here I am moving to a Portuguese-speaking country.
