In fact, the tallest hill (there is not even a mountain) in the region where I live is 168 meters high, which is about half as tall as the Empire State Building. However, if you go all the way to the south, you'll find the Alps! The Alps are a huge mountain range that straddles Austria, Switzerland, Northern Italy and a very small area of southern Germany. They were formed when the plate that carries modern Italy crashed into mainland Europe and caused uplift. This is the same process that led to the formation of the Himalayan mountains, in which the Indian subcontinent collided (and is still colliding) with the rest of Asia. I love reading about the geology of the places I visit because it deepens my knowledge about the area and sometimes even helps to explain why people living in different parts of the world live such different lives! The spectacular "Cinderella's Castle" that I visited is located on the border between the mountains and the plains, which makes the view of the castle and its surroundings even more spectacular!
As soon as we arrived, my professor and I walked up the hill all the way to the castle. The views were just amazing and we were also delighted to see that the castle looks incredibly like the one in the Disney films!
My professor and I chatted as we walked through the woods, taking in the changing colors and the lovely sounds of birds singing. I am still not very good at identifying bird calls, so I unfortunately do not know what types of birds lived in these woods.
Because our visit took place in the state of Bavaria, we also visited the museum of the Bavarian kings and learned about the history of the region. For a long time, Germany was divided into separate kingdoms.
