Have you ever wondered where Walt Disney got his inspiration to create Cinderella's castle? As it turns out, it was based on a real castle located here in Germany!

On Thursday night, I caught a train bound towards southern Germany, looking forward to exploring more of this part of the country. I traveled on the ICE train (Inter-City Express), which can travel up to 186 miles per hour! Unlike the American trains on which I have been traveled, ICE trains provide a much smoother ride, which makes the journey so much more comfortable. I barely noticed that I was speeding through the German countryside towards München (Munich in English)!

I arrived the following morning in München and met up with my university professor that would be travelling with me on this trip. To get around, we had arranged to pick up a rental car at the airport. To my surprise, there was already a Christmas market in the process of being set up! I will tell you more about these markets once they get fully into season. Then, as soon as we had the car, we were on our way to the foothills of the Alps!

The geography of Germany is extremely varied. Surprisingly, the country is quite flat in the north where I live in Kiel.
