Nature in London

Introduction:

As an outdoorsy girl, living in the city has been a bit of an adjustment for me. Even though London has a mostly urban landscape, there are still so many ways to stay active and connect with nature. For instance, near my house, there are a series of canals along which many people walk their dogs, take runs and even go fishing. Visiting public parks is another great way to connect with nature in London. In the park, there are always families, and on Sunday's there are farmer's markets. There is not much wildlife here beyond squirrels, pigeons, mice and crows; but there is one creature unique to the London streets, and that's the urban fox.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

I remember when I saw my first fox in London. I actually thought it was a dog. By the time I got my phone out to take a picture, it had run away. It was really small, about twenty pounds, and brown. I saw this fox on the street just outside my school in the center of London, next to the British Museum!

How did I feel when I saw it?:

I was a little scared when I first saw the fox, I was not sure how it would behave. I was also really excited because I had heard about the London urban foxes and had really wanted to see one. I have seen foxes in the USA before, but the fox in London was much smaller than the others I have seen near my home in Connecticut.
