Getting Around Malaysia

Sometimes I would instinctually enter the car from the left side thinking that's where the steering wheel is when it's actually on the right! It's quite embarassing if people are watching. Other times, I would accidently drive on the wrong side of the road!  That can be dangerous, so I have to be careful.

In Malaysia, I do not ride motorbikes, even though they are popular here, because it's so dangerous. Most motorcyclists don't follow the rules of the road and take red lights, among other things, which is why it's not the safest mode of transportation. For example, one time as I was driving home from school, I saw a person being carried off the road because he tried to pass a car and got hit by another car. He had to go to the hospital. Always remember, safety first!

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Using motorbikes to get around is definitely connected to the culture and enviornment, particularly for a rural place like Perlis. Motorbikes are cheaper than cars. For example, you can buy a used motorbike for around RM 2,000 (about $500), and a used car for almost RM 10,000 (about $2,430). As recently as 2016, the median household income in Perlis, or the total amount of money all the people living in a house make, is around RM 4,200, (about $1,020). Buying a bike is more affordable for most families in Perlis. In addition to this, some of the roads in Perlis are narrow, making it easier for motorbikes to travel on them than cars.
