Hello! My name is Wafaa, and I am studying abroad in Thailand. Today, I want to tell you about how people get around in my host city. Come with me as I explore two common ways to travel in the busy streets of Thailand. Using these kinds of transportation helped me learn how people in Thailand travel every day. Transportation here is simple, shared, and part of the community
In Thailand, many people use shared taxis to travel. These are small trucks that carry many people at the same time. They are very common and easy to find. People also use tuk-tuks, which are small taxis for one or two people.
I tried riding in a tuk-tuk, and it felt exciting and fun. I could see the streets, shops, and people around me during the ride. In Thailand, the driver sits on the left side, which is different from the United States.
This way of transportation is connected to daily life in Thailand. Shared taxis help many people travel together and save money. Tuk-tuks are small and can move easily on busy streets. They are helpful for short trips and in warm weather.
Have you ever tried a different way of getting around? Would you like to ride in a tuk-tuk?
