My friends and I were in a small cafe, so we didn't get to see how the food was cooked, but I talked to the owner! She said she uses a family recipe for her potato cakes, with homemade buttermilk and plenty of butter. It turns out that it is actually an Irish recipe! The owner was part Irish, so she decided to combine food from both cultures.
Bristol is a city with a lot of independent cafes (that means that they're run by normal people like you and me, not Starbucks). A lot of the ingredients come from local bakeries and farms. Even the coffee was from a company in Bristol! That is why it is nice to explore the city and try new foods. I love learning about how everyone in the city supports each other and supports small businesses.
