This week, I get to share with you my favorite Belizean snack and food, the stuffjack! With this field note, I will walk you through how it is made, and how locals add some of their touch to make it truly Belizean!
I tried a stuffed fryjack or also called stuffjack (a fried snack).
It was so tasty! This is my favorite Belizean food by far. The perfect combo of spicy and savory!
A Belizean stuffjack is a warm, tasty snack made from simple ingredients. To make a stuffjack, you mix flour, baking powder, salt and water to create dough. The dough is rolled into a small circle, then filled with refried beans, cheese or shredded chicken. After that, the dough is folded over the filling and the edges are pinched so it stays closed. The stuffed dough is placed in hot oil and fried until it turns golden brown and puffy. When it’s done, it is crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside and delicious to eat warm. Think of it like a big taco!
