Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I did not travel all that far this past week. I stayed within Ulaanbaatar and had a mostly uneventful week.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

The furthest I have traveled in Mongolia was to the small town of Khatgal at the beginning of March. Located by the southern shore of Lake Khuvsgul, Khatgal is a small town of only several thousand residents, and it is around 800 kilometers (500 miles) northwest of Ulaanbaatar. To get there, I took a 13-hour-long bus ride and a two-hour-long taxi ride. Khatgal is a beautiful place right on the shore of Mongolia’s largest freshwater lake, which was still completely frozen and covered with snow during my visit.

How did I get around this week?:

Ulaanbaatar is a highly walkable city, while traffic congestion is a serious problem. Therefore, I travel almost entirely by feet within the city, and this past week was no exception. Occasionally, if I am trying to reach a place that’s further away, I might catch a bus or taxi.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

I really didn’t go anywhere very interesting this past week, having just spent time reading or hanging out with my friends as our schools are on spring break.
