Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week, I didn’t travel very far from my house. I went about 25 to 30 kilometers. In India, people use the metric system, which measures distance in kilometers. In the United States, we use the Imperial system, which is usually miles, so 25 to 30 kilometers is about 15 to 20 miles!

Since it rained a lot during monsoon season, I stayed close to home so I wouldn’t get stuck or have trouble getting back. Most of my trips were short and nearby. Staying close felt like the safest choice during all the rain!

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

On this five month journey so far, I’ve traveled across almost all corners of India. I’ve been to Goa on the western coast by the sea, all the way north to Delhi, the busy capital. In the south, I’ve visited Madurai and Rameshwaram, where the land meets the ocean. I’ve also traveled through our neighboring state, Kerala, known for its greenery and backwaters. Seeing so many different places has shown me just how big and diverse India really is.

How did I get around this week?:

This week, I mostly got around by taking cabs and riding in auto-rickshaws. Auto-rickshaws are small, open vehicles that zip through traffic and make short trips really fun.
