Travel News

My program provides a commuter card that allows me to get around pretty much all of the city! The transportation is reliable and everywhere, making it easy to get from point A to point B.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The most interesting place was visiting Halászbástya (Fisherman’s Bastion) in Budapest, Hungary. I went up to the lookout terrace at sunrise and had a perfect view of the whole city. Many people come to visit at this time, and newlywed couples often take wedding photos here. The Bastion itself was completed in 1902 in honor of the 1,000th birthday of the country, alongside other buildings and monuments on Castle Hill. The name is accredited to the halász (guild of fishermen) who worked in Watertown, the neighborhood between the Bastion and the Danube river, and protected the castle walls in the Middle Ages during wars.

Other Travel News from this week:

While traveling, I have gone to a number of museums in each country to learn more about their rich history and art. Some of the museums I visited in Vienna and Budapest  were the Belvedere Palace, Leopold Museum and the Hungarian National Museum. They cover a range of topics from the whole history of Hungary to the various art movements within Vienna. I personally loved the Belvedere Palace as there were a number of unique exhibits in gorgeous, Baroque-style rooms. You would walk in and see a mix of modern and classical paintings lining the walls and then look up to see detailed Baroque paintings on the ceiling framed with gold ornamentation. Even with so many rooms, each one was clearly well thought and designed with intricate details.
