Traveler Bio

Mande? This is my favorite word since moving to Ecuador. It is a nice way of saying, “What?” in Spanish.

Learning a new language can be hard. I am learning Spanish because I am a Peace Corps Volunteer living in Ecuador. The Peace Corps is an organization that promotes world peace and sends people from the United States to countries all over the world. Ecuador is a beautiful country with jungles, mountains, and gorgeous beaches. I live in a small town in Ecuador in the Amazon rainforest. My town is surrounded by forests, rivers, and waterfalls.

Before joining the Peace Corps, I lived in Texas. I worked as a nurse, and I helped supervise healthcare clinics in a big city. I worked as a nurse for 28 years, and I helped lots of people in hospitals, schools, and the community live healthier lives. I joined the Peace Corps because I wanted a chance to help people in other countries live healthier lives. I also wanted to learn about new places and meet new people.

Culture is a way of life in which people share similar language, beliefs, and traditions. Living in different cultures shows you new ways of doing things, but also makes you appreciate your own culture and customs. Since moving to Ecuador, I have traveled to modern cities, and tiny villages without running water. I have met amazing people, learned new dances, and tried new foods.

I love to travel, take long hikes, make art, and learn about other cultures. I am looking forward to sharing my experiences with you all. Please join me on my adventures!

Peace Corps Volunteers like me live and work side by side with community members around the world, collaborating on locally prioritized projects, building relationships, exchanging cultures and knowledge, and helping transform lives for generations. Learn more by clicking here.
