Getting Around: The Metro and "Funicular"

When I leave my house, I walk to the metro station just a few minutes away. I walk down the stairs to go underground, and wait for the train to come. There are helpful television screens that tell me when the next train is coming. I take the train to the next stop, and then wait for the special train, the "Funicular" to come. When I enter the Funicular, I push a button that tells the train which stop I would like to get off of on the mountain, because there is nobody inside driving the train! It is all automatic!

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Because Barcelona has both mountains and the beach, it is important to be able to get to both of these areas. If I want to go up the mountain, it might be hard to take a car. The Funicular helps people to get up the mountain quickly. The Funicular is built into the steep mountainside and takes passengers up (and down!) to different parts of the mountain. In this way, it is a unique way to access the different geographical elements of the city. In addition, the Funicular is much better for the environment than using a car, which uses gas and releases harmful chemicals into the environment. The Funicular is electric, which saves money and helps the environment, an important value for the Spanish people.
