When I stepped off the plane in Barcelona International Airport, I took a 20-minute taxi ride to Sarrià, Barcelona. Sarrià is a quiet neighborhood with many families. I am glad that I am in a spot that is far from lots of tourists, because those areas can get very loud at night, and the streets are always filled with people. The taxi dropped me off across from a restaurant and a small fruit stand where my host brother, Adria, greeted me and showed me around the piso, or apartment. Adria lives in the piso below mine, so we go to the gym and eat dinner together often during the week.

The piso where I live with my host family is decorated with many paintings by my host father, Pedro. There are also lots of plants on the outside terrace, and a balcony outside of my room where I can see the restaurant across the street. The street is very cool too, with many balconies and an historic look to it.

In the mornings, I wake up at 8:00 a.m. and take the metro to the Hospital Clinic, which takes about 25 minutes. When I get to work at the hospital, I have many experiments to do for my research project.
