Exploring Madrid

Madrid also has a train system, which is called Cercanías. I prefer the Cercanías instead of the metro because they travel on a track above ground so I can enjow the pretty views in Madrid.

My favorite way to get around Madrid is to walk. Not only is it a good source of exercise, walking around allows me to explore different areas of Madrid. Because I live in Sol (the center of Madrid), I am surrounded by many stores, historic sites, coffee shops, restaurants, and museums. Walking from Sol to other areas of Madrid is super easy and fast, and I always discover something new on my walks. How would you feel about living in a city where it is easy to walk everywhere? Would you like it? Do you think more cities should have great public transportation?

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

Since I have always lived in an area where I travel by car, living in Madrid has been the first time I have ever relied on public transportation. When I first tried the metro and the train, I was really nervous because I did not want to get on the wrong metro/train and end up in an area of Madrid that I had never been to. However, after using public transpoertation for about a week, I felt confident in my ability to navigate through Madrid and travel alone. Now, I love using the metro and the train! I prefer this way of traveling because it is efficient, reliable and inexpensive (it only costs me €20 per month, or about $22.50). I have been able to travel to so many places without a car, including my university, resaurants, movie theaters, historic sites, parks and museums.
