Hello, Ms. Bottomley's class! I'm Sophie and I'm so excited to show you around Taiwan. I recently asked my students to make some posters to show you all what an average school day is like here. The first one is titled "Day in My Life," and it shows my students' daily schedule. They go to school at 7:00 a.m. and start working at 7:30 a.m. They have cleaning duty in the morning and at lunch. Every student has a different duty. Some clean the blackboards, some mop the floors and some sweep the sidewalks. Some of them even have to clean the bathrooms (surprisingly, this is one of their favorite duties to have)!

Lunch is at 12:00 p.m. We don't have a cafeteria, so students eat in their classrooms. Students and teachers have an afternoon nap from 1:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m., and then classes until 4:00 p.m. During the 10-minute break between classes, students run down to the courts to play basketball or volleyball. After the final class of the day, students have a final cleaning period and practice tests before they go home or go to cram school. Cram school in Taiwan (also referred to as test-prep) is a specialized school that trains its students to achieve particular goals, most commonly to pass the entrance examinations of high schools or universities.
