Hello, class! Today I want to share something really important in Brazilian culture: food. A typical meal here includes rice, beans, some kind of meat and vegetables or a salad. People in Brazil eat rice and beans almost every single day, and it is definitely the foundation of their diet. But just like in many places around the world, dessert is also very important here! One of Brazil's most famous desserts is called a brigadeiro (bree-gah-day-ro). Brigadeiros are small, round, chocolate treats that you'll almost always see at birthday parties, family get-togethers and celebrations. I made the brigadeiros in this photo at home with my Brazilian friend, Rafaela, and cooking together was such a fun way of getting to know Brazilian culture.
I tried brigadeiros, which are soft chocolate sweets rolled into little balls and covered in sprinkles. They are about the size of a ping-pong ball, which makes them perfect for one big bite! The classic brigadeiro flavor is milk chocolate, but there are actually lots of different versions. Some are made with coconut, passionfruit or strawberries, and people are always inventing new flavors. The ingredients are simple and pretty easy to find, so almost anyone in Brazil can make brigadeiros at home. It's a dessert that most people here grow up making, eating and sharing with friends and family.
