I prefer crispy dosa, but my three-year-old host sister, Diya (dee-yah), likes the fluffy dosa better.
This week, I listened to a mix of popular Tamil songs and the Lilo and Stitch soundtrack. My favorite Tamil songs this week are “Life of Ram” from the movie 96 and “Maacho” staring the biggest movie star in Tamil Nadu, Vijay (vih-hay).
The most fun activity I did this week was teaching my students how to play Hangman. Tamil does not have words that start with vowel sounds, and so I sometimes have trouble understanding how the students say the names of English letters. We're learning to understand how each other pronounces letters and competing in Hangman at the same time!
This week, I read My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult, The Rule Breakers by Preeti Shenoy, and I started re-reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling.
This week, Hangman was the only game I played. My seventh-grade students started teaching me the rules to a game called Throwball, but I have not played yet.
This week was the two-thirds marker of my time in India, meaning that I have now been living in Vellore for over six months and have only three more months left in India.
