This is the cool season in southern India, and so we did not have the extreme heat that Vellore is known for. Most mornings were around 65°F and the afternoons were 85°F.
I saw many cows, goats, dogs, house lizards and monkeys in Vellore this week. I also saw a cat, some water buffalo and a few chickens. The cows, goats, dogs, monkeys and water buffalo roam the streets freely while the cats stick to the rooftops as much as possible. The lizards like to hang out near our laundry lines where they can eat mosquitos that sit on the drying clothes.
The coolest thing I saw in nature this week was the family of monkeys who live near my monkeys who stopped by my school to steal the snacks the students dropped near the canteen. The monkeys are not afraid of the students or the teachers, and they love to open water bottles for a drink.
