¡Hola a todos! Hello everyone! My name is Sofia Heartney. I am from Falls Church City, Virginia. It is located right outside of the nation's capital, Washington, D.C. I currently live in the town of San José De Pare in Colombia. There, I teach English in the middle and high schools, offer community classes to teach English to adults, and run an English Kids’ Club!
I am part of an organization called the Peace Corps. The Peace Corps is part of the U.S. government. It was founded in 1961. Since then, it has placed volunteers in countries all over the world! Volunteers live in communities for two years. They help fulfill the community’s needs, such as teaching English, working to increase tourism, improving farming work, and more! However, the most important part of a Peace Corps volunteer’s work is to form relationships with the people in their community.
In my free time, I like to run, read, and write. My town is located in the mountains, so I also love to hike and explore the nature nearby.
Peace Corps Volunteers like me live and work side by side with community members around the world, collaborating on locally prioritized projects, building relationships, exchanging cultures and knowledge, and helping transform lives for generations. Learn more by clicking here.
