¡Buen provecho! Food in Colombia

My favorite is granadilla, which is similar to a passion fruit. You break open the orange skin and suck the inside pulp. Lulo is also common, which I like when it is juiced. It is a citrus fruit.

Colombia is also known for its coffee. It is one of the main things grown in my town, and you will find people drinking tinto at all hours of the day here. Tinto is similar to black coffee. While that wasn’t exactly a new food for me, I used to drink mine with milk and only in the morning. It took some time to get used to at first, but now I really enjoy the rich taste of tinto.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I often feel a bit nervous trying new foods, especially when they are completely unfamiliar or different from anything I've tried before. I think that's a normal reaction, since I’m often unsure of what constitutes the ingredients of a dish or if I will like it. That’s especially true with meals such as the ejecutivos that I mentioned above, where you don't have much choice in what you get. I have to have an open mind and be open to whatever they're serving that day, even if it's something with which I'm unfamiliar.

However, most of the time I've enjoyed the new things that I've tried. Many of them have become some of my new favorite foods. For example, I now have a mantecada y tinto, or butter cake and coffee, almost every day at my local panadería (bakery). Those are both things that I wouldn't have necessarily picked for myself two years ago, but now have become staples for me.
