Adiós, Chicos!

Journal Entry:

My year-abroad journey in Costa Rica came to an end on December 16, 2019. Little did I know that it would be the last time in a long time that I would have the opportunity to travel again and see mis amigos y mi familia tica (my friends and my Costa Rican family)My last two weeks in Costa Rica were filled with both joy and sorrow as I was preparing to return to my ordinary life in the United States.

One of the many ways I enjoyed my last few weeks with my familia tica was by hosting a Thanksgiving dinner at la casa de mi mama tica (the house of my Costa Rican mom). We invited the whole family over for a proper Thanksgiving feast. Luckily, I was able to make all of the essential Thanksgiving foods, such as roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, stuffing and pumpkin bread! My family was so surprised that there were no rice and beans to eat during our dinner, but they said they were pleasantly surprised to try all of the Thanksgiving staples. According to my familia tica, their favorite dish was the sweet potato casserole! They even said that they would continue to make it all the time.
