Hong Kong: Mountains and Typhoons

What challenges do people face living in this environment?:

One trade-off for having such warm temperatures is that Hong Kong is affected year-round by typhoons. A typhoon is actually the same thing as a hurricane. Hurricanes, cyclones and typhoons are all names for the same type of storm, depending on where in the world the storm occurs. Typhoons can cause flooding, property damage, disruption of transit and more, depending on the size of the storm. Living in a region where typhoons are common means certain precautions must be taken when storms are predicted, including even possibly evacuating the affected area.

How have people been adapting to this environment?:

The people of Hong Kong have adapted to the environment very well. Because of the high winds that the region experiences, all buildings are made strong enough to withstand wind gusts from a typhoon. The government has also focused on creating early detection systems to give proper warning about incoming weather events.
