In the savannas of South Africa’s North-West Province, a magnificent White rhinoceros named Seha once roamed with pride. However, in October 2016, Seha faced a tragic challenge that would test his will to survive.
A group of poachers, driven by greed for Seha’s valuable horns, attacked him with weapons that few rhinos have ever survived. Seha was shot through his chest, which stunned him and left him unconscious, which gave the poachers enough time to take his horns, leaving him severely wounded and alone. Of the five rhinos attacked on the reserve that day, Seha was the only survivor. For two weeks, he wandered in pain, his face bloodied and his horns gone. The reserve’s owners, believing Seha was no longer valuable, left him without care.
Fortunately, Seha’s story took a hopeful turn when local police spotted him near the reserve’s boundary fence. Shocked by his condition, they contacted Saving the Survivors NPC, a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and treating injured wildlife.
