Our News

Recently, my host mother cooked Galician empanadas, which are filled with tuna, which is quite a popular fish, here. Dessert is always a variety of fruit.

What music did I listen to this week?:

I have been listening to lots of Rosalía, a Spanish artist from Barcelona. She sings many different genres in over 12 languages, including flamenco music, a traditional Spanish genre of dance and song.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I visited Toledo, an area known as the city of three cultures, due to the combined influence of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Exploring the architecture of mosques, cathedrals and synagogues was fascinating and relevant to a course I am taking about religion in Spain. Learning about the history behind Spain, which has been under both Christian and Islamic rule, has been important to understanding Spain’s modern cultural identity.

What did I read this week?:

I am currently taking a course about women in Spanish literature, in which I have been loving a play, or obra, known as La Casa de Bernarda Alba by the author Federico García Lorca.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

I would love to play fútbol (soccer) while here; however for now am just watching games (partidos) instead.

There was a soccer game this Saturday between Real Madrid and Osasuna, a team from Pamplona, and despite the fact that it was not a home game and Real Madrid lost 2 to 1, I visited the stadium to witness all the excitement.
