Fútbol & the Arts!

When I visited on a game day, the energy surrounding the stadium was very exciting, with many people in RM jerseys. You could truly feel how much everyone loves this sport, and how popular soccer is to daily life in Spain, whether incorporating soccer through practice, or watching, as a leisure activity. You can purchase official merchandise like jerseys at any time from the shop close to the stadium or in Madrid’s city centre.

Other than soccer, in the Basque country region of Spain, a game known as pelota Vasca, or Basque ball, is played in a court known as a frontón.

Outside of sports, Spain has various other cultural activities in the arts, such as music and dance.

Madrid contains an area known as the “Golden Triangle of Art”, which contains three art museums that hold the works of some of Spain’s greatest artists: from Picasso to Goya. These museums are the Thyssen, Museo del Prado, and la Reina Sofía.

Flamenco dancing, which originated in Andalusia the southern region of Spain, is another form of art highly regarded in Spain. A beautiful, colorful dress is worn for this artform. Viewers often will shout “olé!” to encourage the dancer.

Which form of Spanish art or sport are you interested in seeing or playing?
