In Spain and across all of Europe, soccer is known as fútbol. Soccer is adored by everyone here as shown by the habit of gathering to watch games, playing with friends or attending soccer-related events. La Liga, which translates directly to “The League”, is the network in which 20 Spanish soccer teams compete in a 38-day match period.
Spain’s national soccer team is nicknamed La Roja. Spain won the 2010 FIFA world cup in South Africa. One popular saying at games is “¡Que viva España!”, or “Long Live Spain!”.
The Real Madrid team plays at the stadium Bernabéu. You may be familiar with their top player - Mbappé! A tour of the stadium starts at 29 euros (or ~$30). Depending on who Real Madrid is playing against, tickets can range from $75 to many hundreds of dollars, especially if you would like a VIP spot!
While I hope to eventually attend a Real Madrid game, I have so far only had the opportunity to see the stadium from the outside. At a game, one team-specific chant you may hear is “"¡Hala Madrid y nada más!", which means “Go Madrid and nothing more!”. The stadium also has restaurants.
