It's sitting on that budget transport option that you willing chose and cursing yourself for booking it, then doing it again later because it was so affordable. It's underestimating the weather in Poland and not bringing nearly enough layers (I'm cold). As a sidenote: I just arrived in Hungary, and travel is also sometimes buying scam train tickets and then being fined 12,000 HUF ($37.12 USD) by the Hungarian transit police for not having an official ticket (though I got away relatively easy on this one since transit fines in Switzerland start at $125.00 USD).
This isn't me trying to dissuade anyone from solo travel. If anything, this has been one of the most empowering experiences of my life. If I can navigate a country by myself in a language I don't speak, what can't I do? Though, I am trying to give you the reality of the situation and, maybe, stop you from making some of the same mistakes I did (do your research on weather, culture and public transit!!). I feel like with everyone raving about how transformative and glamorous their travel experiences were, it's important to see the planning and the not-so-fun moments of how travel can often look; then let you know that these moments are often worth it.
