I went with two of my friends, and we explored the city, climbed mountains and played at the beach. It felt so nice to be at the beach again after living far away from the ocean for so long. I think you understand, especially since you’re from Florida!
While there, I got to explore some very special places. One of them was Table Mountain, a huge mountain with a flat top that looks like a table! We rode up the mountain in a cable car and could see the whole city, the ocean, and tiny cars far below. It felt like we were on top of the world.
We also visited Boulders Beach, a beach with big round rocks and lots of penguins! The penguins waddled, swam and rested on the sand. I had never seen penguins living on a warm, sunny beach before, and it made me laugh.
We also ate lots of yummy food like sushi, bagels and pancakes—foods that are hard to find in Botswana. One thing I miss about America is all the different kinds of food!
I feel very lucky to know you and your teacher, Mrs. Depasquale. You have made my time in Botswana so happy and fun. You are so lucky to have a teacher like Mrs. Depasquale who shows you how big and exciting the world is and teaches you to explore it.
Finally, one thing I would like you guys to take with you is the saying, “motho ke motho ka batho,” meaning a person is a person through other people, or “I am because you are.” This teaches us that we need each other. We learn, grow and feel happy when we help our friends, share and are kind. When we care about others, we all become stronger together.
