The life of the "typical" Colombian Kid: El Rolo y Amazona (From Bogotá and the Amazons)

To say, "Hello, how are you?" while in Bogotá students say, "Hola, cómo está?" in the Amazons students say, "Ñuxacü i guxūma?" Try to pronounce that!

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Surprisingly, I found kids' names to be pretty similar at both schools in Bogotá and the Amazons! For example, in both schools that I visited, I met students named Camilo, Sebastian, and Natalia, which are all typical Colombian names.

What subjects does a typical Colombian kid study in school, and what are some favorites?:

The subjects that kids study in both Bogotá and the Amazons are fairly similar, with the exception of language. Like in the U.S., students study Language Arts, Social Studies, Math and Science, but in Spanish. However, in Bogotá students also have an English period, and in the Amazons students have a period in their indigenous language. They also do have an extra subject called, Life Skills, which reminds me of the Seven Habits!

What is homework usually like?:

Like in the U.S., homework tends to be a review of everything students have done that day in class.

What does a typical Colombian kid like to do after school? Does a typical Colombian kid have a favorite sport or game?:

If there is any sport that students play before, during and after school, it's soccer. Colombians love soccer so much that there isn't much interest in other sports!

Who are most Colombian kids’ favorite famous people?:

Most students love the musician Shakira! Plus, lots of Colombian soccer players.
