A Semi-Typical, Busy Week in Bhaktapur

One of the makerspaces had a teched-out dress that the teachers made; it had pressure sensors on it that causes LEDs in the dress to change colors as the surrounding pressure changes. Outside, they also had a beautiful mural that the 9th grade girls made for a competition speaking against domestic violence, and they won an award for it! When we visited the pre-school area, all the kids were down for their naps. There were cute posters about earthworms because the class has pet earthworms!

One of the co-founders of that school, Milan Dixit, gave us a lecture about the current status of education in Nepal and is the one who gave us a tour of the school. The school's first building was actually her old home! And she's since moved out to a nearby home and built more buildings in the surrounding area. Her husband, Kunda Dixit, has also given us three different lectures! Both of them are amazing people.

Other Travel News from this week:

Tonight we are going to stay in the Nana Hotel in Kathmandu city! Typically we’re not allowed to be out late at night because it’s unsafe, but during Indra Jatra, everyone will be out at night in the city!  Also, later this week, we’ll travel to Pokhara and then Tangting, which will be the new farthest place I will have traveled. Due to unknown traffic conditions, the bus ride to Pokhara could be anywhere from eight to 12.5 hours long! Then we’ll spend one night in Pokhara before traveling to the small village, Tangting. We’ll take a short jeep ride, and then hike the rest of the way for about three hours uphill.
