Traveler Bio

Guten Tag! My name is Rhiannon, but most people just call me Rhi. I am a “military brat,” so my family and I lived in different places while I was growing up, including Germany, the Netherlands, Iceland, and South Korea. I studied in Charleston, South Carolina for 3 years, which is now where I consider home.

I decided to return to Germany as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant to explore Cold War legacies in East Germany. Did you know that Germany used to be divided during the Cold War, with a wall separating the East and West? I am living in Leipzig, a city in the former East with a unique history and culture that is distinct from the West. I like living in Germany because the food is different from that in the U.S., and the pretzels are especially delicious. I also enjoy hiking in the south of Germany, where the Alps are and traveling to different parts of Europe by train.

I’m excited to share more about my experience in Leipzig and look forward to getting to know you more!
