On this street, you will see brightly colored houses, statues of famous people from balconies, tango dancers in the streets, art vendors and little shops. This neighborhood is often viewed as a symbol of Buenos Aires.
The sport of soccer was brought to Argentina in 1867 by British immigrants. Because of these immigrants from the UK, they started teaching the sport to natives, fútbol clubs and leagues were started and the passion kept on growing into what it is today.
Because fútbol is part of the culture here in Argentina, many people watch the games at home or listen on the radio and comment on them with others throughout the week with friends or coworkers. There are many celebrations in the streets, at stadiums or at places where people gather to watch the games. As I am typing this article, I can hear chanting, singing, horns and radios in the streets because Racing (one of the popular local teams) won an important game!
I don't think the tradition of fútbol is super connected to the environment. It is played all year round both on indoor and outdoor fields or just at any area one can find if they don't have an official field.
I personally love and play soccer myself, and it is my favorite sport. I have found a league here in Santa Rosa where I am living and I plan to join the team next week. Stay tuned on my personal adventures con fútbol en un país donde hay una pasión fuerte por el deporte! (with soccer in a country where there is a strong passion for the sport!)
