Fútbol is a large part of the culture in much of Latin America including in Argentina! Many say futbol is one of Argentina's national passions. They also say that the superclásico (super classic) between the two Argentine soccer teams, the Boca Juniors and River Plate, has been called one of the top sporting events to see before you die. My travel guide book even describes it as such!
I learned about fútbol! In the capital city of Buenos Aires, there are two dozen professional fútbol teams-the most of any city in the world. In Buenos Aires, there is a barrio (neighborhood) called La Boca where you can feel and see the passion for fútbol all around you. In this neighborhood, you can see the stadium, La Bombonera, and catch a game and see the Boca Juniors play. I have not had the chance to go to a game yet, but it is said that if you are in La Boca during a game, the streets will be a sea of yellow and blue, the team's colors. You will also hear the passion, sounds of fans singing and cheering whether they are at home watching and listening on the radio or watching the game at the stadium.
Aside from the passion of soccer running through the streets of el barrio La Boca, it is a top tourist sight as well. La Caminito is La Boca's most famous street.
