Nature in Kazakhstan

Introduction:

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to travel to Lake Kaindy, Lake Kolsai, Charyn Canyon and Black Canyon, all of which are just a few hours from the city. While there, I saw some really beautiful plants and nature!

What does this creature or plant look like?:

One of the things I was really surprised to see were the trees that appear to grow out of Lake Kaindy. I've included a picture here, but there are a lot of narrow, grey tree trunks that come out of the lake itself. The actual lake is a very rich blue color.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

I was really shocked! Being from Michigan like all of you, I thought I had seen most types of lakes/lake environments. To see trees coming out of the middle of a lake was definitely something new for me.

Where does it live?:

I learned after visting that the trees coming out of Lake Kaindy aren't actually alive anymore. However, since the lake water is so cold, the tree trunks have been preserved for hundreds of years, giving the appearance that they're still growing out of Lake Kaindy! I also learned that they're called "Picea Schreniana" trees, and that they are native to the Tian Shan mountains, meaning that they're mainly found in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and western China.
