When your family makes dinner, do they make extra in case other people come over? My family in the United States does not, but I have some friends in Colombia who have told me that they always have enough food for visitors, and if they don't, they will just divide it up!

In my experience, Colombians are always ready to share and are very giving people. For example, if you buy a bag of chips and are with a group of friends, it is normal to share the whole bag (or at least some) with all of them, even if you're the only one who bought it. My friends here are very giving with all of their belongings, but especially with food. At first, I thought that it was odd for someone to buy chips, only to share half of the bag with other people. Why couldn't they just buy their own bag? Why was everyone just giving away all of their chips? But Colombians never force you to share...it's just normal for them to do so.

So as I realized that I was the only person who always didn't share, I thought about how that might be perceived, or seen, by other people. I was so surprised that people were always so giving, and I realized that I wanted to be more like that in my life. I also realized that it is more important to share moments than material items.
