My experience:
As a social work major, it was a requirement to study abroad. I began to meet with my university's scholarship and Global Education Offices for eight months when deciding on the perfect program for me. They were able to provide me with support systems to find scholarships that my university provides and also outside scholarships. Due to my status as a first-generation minority, California resident, and a full-ride student, scholarships, and FAFSA covered my tuition fees for my CSUIP Ghana Fall 2023 abroad program. After going overseas, I now understand how crucial the experience is.
Guide to picking a program:
There are different types of programs: private or direct partnerships (can be out of pocket or an internship), or local university exchange programs (See the Approved Global Education Programs Abroad photo). These programs can be supplementary to your home university courses. This means that the academics at a university abroad can fulfill course credits just like a home institution. Some opportunities abroad do not fulfill academic credits but can be used for other degree requirements.
