Scholarships for Study Abroad

These opportunities include internships that award just a few credits or maybe compensation. Reach out to your campus to inquire about this. When thinking of classes in a foreign country, do your research to confirm your major is offered. Lastly, research the location including culture, environment and proximity to others. If you have access to housing information, look into a homestay, hostel/resident hall living or apartments. Programs that were in Ghana while living in the hostels were UCEAP or CSUIP/CIEE.

Guide for paying for the program:

When evaluating the costs of studying abroad, beware that some programs allow tuition fees to be paid directly to your home university as you would any semester, while others will allow you to use scholarships and FASFA or you will be out of pocket provided you can not access your FAFSA to pay for the trip. There are different term lengths of programs: fall, winter, summer, spring and the whole academic year. Depending on the program you want, the cost will vary.  Look into your financial aid packages during a regular semester vs. abroad, and you may notice that it's about the same as tuition. Out-of-pocket programs can be paid for in total, but it does take a bit of extra time and planning. Regardless of which program you decide on, you will still need to do financial planning. FYI - flight tickets are out of pocket.

Scholarships:

Any student can apply for scholarships, but there are qualifications to meet. It all depends on what amount of work and time you are willing to put in to find or complete the scholarships. Be prepared to write four or more essays for the applications.
