I have passed through a lot of farmland while riding north through Morocco. Some days I have spent hours cycling past fields and farms, which has given me a chance to see another side of the country outside of the larger cities. Agriculture is especially important here in the Gharb region, where the landscape and climate support many different types of crops.
Around Moulay Bousselham, farmers grow crops including strawberries, peanuts, potatoes, watermelon and wheat. The area is particularly famous for its strawberries and is sometimes called the strawberry capital of Morocco. Agriculture is constantly changing, though. Some farmers in this area are now growing more raspberries, blueberries and avocados. Riding through these agricultural areas has been an interesting reminder that exploring a country is not only about visiting its cities and famous landmarks. It is also about seeing how people use the land and make their living.
