Kurama Fire Festival

The use of fire in the festival symbolizes purification and the power of nature to protect and renew life.

The torches are made from natural pine wood, showing respect for the surrounding forests. The festival also celebrates harmony between humans and the environment, reminding the community of their dependence on, and responsibility toward, nature. By holding the event outdoors, under the mountain sky, the people of Kurama reaffirm their bond with the land, the seasons and the spiritual forces that sustain their village.
