Hello! My name is Payton Storey. I am 22 years old and I am from New Braunfels, Texas. Growing up, I loved to read stories about other worlds and people and came to love learning itself. That drew me to teaching, because I could help others experience the wonders of learning and growing as I had, and resulted in me going to Colorado Christian University (CCU). I recently graduated from there with a bachelor’s and master’s in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Along the way, I got to teach English for a couple of summers in Uzbekistan, Central Asia. Those experiences taught me about the pain of not having a shared language to communicate with and highlighted language education as a career to pursue, which led to me entering the TESOL program.
Having heard the opportunity to teach English in Indonesia, I applied and was accepted to a Fulbright English Teacher Assistantship (ETA). As an ETA, I will help Indonesian English language teachers in a public high school in the city and province of Jambi, Indonesia, teaching, doing activities with students, and hosting community events. I very much look forward to getting to know the people in my host community, learning about their language and ways of life, as well as helping them learn English in and out of the classroom. As I do so, I hope that you get to learn and enjoy the journey along with me as I learn how to live well there and have adventures in the ordinary!
