Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I traveled to an ancient town called 黄龙溪 or Huang Long Xi this week. It's not too far from Chengdu - only about two hours by bus. Unfortunately, my friends and I decided to take a different route, and it took us four hours to reach our destination. On the bright side, the route was quite scenic!

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I'm discovering that there is still a lot to see in Chengdu before I move onto other cities. The more I speak to locals, the more recommendations they have for me. I'm finding that locals are a lot more reliable than guide books!

How did I get around this week?:

Buses are both inexpensive and convenient here. They will travel almost any distance - from two hours to 黄龙溪 (Huang Long Xi) to ten hours to 峨眉山 (Emei mountain). They are also quite comfortable, so on long trips, you can catch up on your sleep and wake up refreshed and be ready to explore.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

Huang Long Xi is a small ancient town about two hours from where I live. It's a small peaceful place with a creek running through it, surrounded by fields on all sides growing everything from cabbage to strawberries. The town itself has small shops that sell everything from edible bugs to noodles to handmade pottery.
