This week, I traveled from Athens to Santorini and back, covering roughly 300 miles by air. That does not include all my walking around the island. Looking down from the plane made it easier to picture Greece as a mainland surrounded by islands, with stretches of blue sea between them.
So far, my study abroad journey has taken me to Portugal and Greece, along with other trips in between. Seeing the route on a map makes the journey feel different: each line connects places where I now have my own memories.
I walked, took taxis and traveled by ferry. In Athens, the rides I booked through an app were taxis, which felt different from the private-car rides I knew in the United States. The ferry gave me a completely different view. From the back, I could see the Greek flag and a long, foamy trail stretching across the water behind us.
