Where Mountains Meet the Sea

How have people been adapting to this environment?:

Korean culture has adapted to its environment in many ways. Older Korean houses and modern ones are designed with different seasons in mind. Many rural houses have heated flooring. Some older ones have thatched rooves, which were especially good at circulating heat during different times of the year, even before air conditioning and heating existed. Outside of the Korean holidays and foods dedicated to the local environment, many Korean people enjoy outdoor activities as well. Camping, bike riding, snowboarding and sailing are popular activities here.

As Korea has become more of an urban country, it has transformed its economy from agricultural (farms) to an economy based on service and technology industries. You may have heard of Korea's biggest companies: Hyundai (manufacturing cars), Samsung (electronics and entertainment) and LG (electronics and other products). Additionally, Korea is also building a global influence from its entertainment industry. Many "K-pop" singers and "K-Dramas" are popular all over the world, including the U.S. You can see BTS, a pop group, performing at the AMA's in this video.

Even though Korea may rely less on its environmental resources than before, that doesn't mean that it shouldn't make an effort to preserve the environment. Indeed, Korea is aware of the problems that pollution is causing for its wildlife and citizens, and they're making an effort to find solutions. Korea has made a large investment in technologies and renewable energy. I hope that Korea and the rest of the world can take steps to protect their environment for future generations!
