The main language spoken in Gijón is Spanish, but there is a local dialect called Bable or Asturian that is spoken in this area. It sounds like a softer-spoken Spanish with fewer throat sounds when spoken. I have not learned enough Bable to be able to recognize it when it is spoken, but I plan to learn some of the dialect during my time in Asturias.
The type of money that is used here in Spain and Asturias is the euro. It is used in a majority of countries in Europe, so I can use the money almost anywhere I go.
A bottle of water costs roughly 0.85-1.20 euro, depending on where you buy the bottle and how big of a bottle it is.
The best meal this week would have to be the meal that I ate my last day in Gijón. It was a dish called Fabada, which is a white bean stew with morcilla (blood sausage), chorizo and pork belly. I have come to love this meal, and I whenever I'm out and about in the city, I always look for restaurants where I can eat it.
